Sara Im grew up in Cambodia and was committed to education. After starting college, her life was disrupted when the Communist Regime took over the country, shutting down schools and forcing mass evacuations.

Evacuation and Labor Camp (02:54 - 06:42): Sara and her family were evacuated from the capital city and eventually sent to a labor camp. Life in the camp was brutal with long work hours, little food, and widespread illness. Despite falling gravely ill, she continued to work to receive food.

Escaping Captivity (12:37 - 15:58): After four years in the camp, Sara and her friends decided to escape. They journeyed through the jungle and eventually reached freedom, reuniting with her family who had also been displaced.

Moving to the U.S. (29:34 - 35:00): With the help of relatives, Sara fled to Thailand and found refuge in a camp established by the UN. After a long and difficult process, she was sponsored by a relative in the U.S. and immigrated there, where she began rebuilding her life.
